"The Division Street Princess"
This memoir of growing up in 1940's Chicago is a coming-of-age tale of a girl, a grocery store, and an old Chicago neighborhood. Although self-published, the memoir was selected as a 2006 Best Book by the Chicago Tribune. Soloway appeared on WTTW-Chicago Tonight, WBEZ-848, numerous bookstore readings and signings, book clubs, book fairs, and arts events. Feature stories appeared in Chicago dailies, as well as community and ethnic (Jewish and Hispanic) press. Currently, she is a guest speaker at DePaul University's Ethnic Chicago classes.
Women’s Business Development Center
For the organization’s 16th Annual Entrepreneurial Woman’s Conference, Soloway developed the media kit, wrote speeches for the co-presidents, interviewed award winners, provided all copy for the event brochure and Chicago Sun-Times supplement, and drafted City of Chicago and State of Illinois proclamations. She also handled pre-event publicity which drew more than 2,000 women to the two-day event. And for the organization's 20th Anniversary 2005 Annual Report, Soloway conceived of the design idea, interviewed all subjects, and wrote the entire 25-page report.
Adoption Information Center of Illinois
In honor of National Adoption Week, Soloway arranged a press conference where adopted and waiting children were the spokespersons and answered questions from the media. All print and electronic press in the city covered the event. To alert interested persons that adoption advocates were readily available to provide information on adoption, and because many prospective adoptive parents work non-traditional hours, Soloway devised a 24-hour Adoption Talk-A-Thon. More than 100 volunteers staffed seven city and suburban locations ‘round the clock.
National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression
Seeking to raise funds from new sources, Soloway created Adopt-A-Scientist. For amounts ranging from $25 to $1,000, contributors received a photo of a research scientist, plus a description of his/her project. The campaign also helped boost the morale of individual scientists, and to stress the need for more research funds toward serious mental illness.
Bradley Wellness Center
Forgoing the traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony, BWC executives instead snipped the world’s largest tape measure that encircled the new health and fitness facility in Dalton, GA.
River Place
To build a crowd for the opening of model apartments and a community art fair in Naperville, IL., Soloway created “Art Comes Alive.” Naperville residents donned 19th century costumes to step out of the famous painting, “Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grand Jatte” by Georges Seurat. We garnered international press for that event.
City of Chicago
To spur high tech development in Chicago, Soloway created the idea for the Mayor’s Taskforce on High Technology Development and identified Dr. Walter Massey as its first chair. Her proposal was outlined in a speech Soloway wrote for Mayor Jane Byrne and presented to the Federal Procurement Conference.
Chicago Public Schools
In an effort to build public support for the schools and tap talents of a broad base of alumni, Soloway created the Chicago Public Schools Alumni Association. Its membership consisted of prominent Chicagoans, such as Mayor Harold Washington, Justice Seymour Simon, Leon Despres, Irv Kupcinet, and Richard Gray. as well as lawyers, authors, bankers, doctors, university professors, artists and other people who remembered their school days with fondness and were now answering a call for time, money and support.
